- Are passports required while traveling from the United States to The Bahamas?
- If you are traveling from the United States to The Bahamas, a valid U.S. passport is required. Several years ago, a government issued picture ID (e.g. driver's license) and valid birth certificate were permitted, however this is no longer the case.

- When traveling to The Bahamas from the U.S., do I need to exchange my currency?
- There's no need to exchange U.S. currency to Bahamian currency. The Bahamian dollar is always matched to the U.S. dollar. U.S. currency is accepted throughout Nassau, however when spending U.S. currency, you may receive Bahamian and/or U.S. currency as change.
Most major credit cards are also accepted.
In The Bahamas, most products are imported, so they tend to be more expensive. Plan accordingly.
- What are other useful tips when traveling to The Bahamas?
- See: Travel Tips from the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board
- Will my U.S. based mobile phone work in the Bahamas?
- You will need to contact your phone carrier to determine ifyou have a calling plan that includes international dialing. Although all phone numbers in the Bahamas and U.S. are part of the North American Numbering Plan and share the same +1 country code for dialing, calls between U.S. and Bahamian phone numbers are considered international.
The Bahamas has a single area code: 242
- How do I get around in Nassau?
- See Getting to & from LPIA (Lynden Pindling International Airport) for information about taxis, car rentals, etc.
In The Bahamas, vehicles are driven on the LEFT side of the road. Because all motor vehicles in The Bahamas are imported from various countries, some vehicles have the driver on the left side of the vehicle and some are on the right.
- What is the weather and sun like in The Bahamas?
- Most of the islands of The Bahamas are slightly north of the Tropic of Cancer, so the climate is almost tropical. Nassau's temperatures are very similar to Miami, Florida. Because New Providence Island is a relatively small island, there is frequently a breeze coming off the ocean which can help with the summer heat for those who are used to cooler climates. Summer afternoon storms can cool the temperatures, but will also increase humidity.
During the summer months, the sun is almost directly overhead and can be very intense. Unprotected skin will sunburn very quickly.
